Bathroom refit

Replacing old shower trays, taps, and vanity units with durable fittings that handle hard coastal water.

How thorough preparation secures your bathroom renovation

  • Demolition clears worn fixtures and tiles — Masonry chisels strip obsolete tiles down to the raw brickwork. Debris leaves the property in heavy rubble bags to keep shared corridors clean.

  • We install multilayer plumbing runs — We run new composite hot and cold pipes to each tap point and pressure-test the closed lines.

  • Floor screed forms drainage falls — A fresh cement screed cures across the shower base with an even slope towards the waste outlet.

  • We apply bonded waterproof barriers — Waterproof fleece coats all wet zones, floor corners, and pipe holes. We test the seal with standing water before laying any tile glue.

  • Adhesive beds secure the tiles — Tile glue bonds each piece flat onto the cured tanking layer. Spreading glue on both surfaces prevents empty gaps underneath.

  • Sanitary silicone seals every junction — Grout fills the joints, and flexible silicone seals tray edges and floor seams. The materials cure completely before anyone turns on the shower.

Handing over your bathroom renovation with zero defects

Continuous sealed wet areas behind tiles

Watertight layers seal every shower wall and floor joint. Water drains away quickly and never gets into the subfloor or bricks below. We test the dry base with standing water before handing over the room.

Corrosion-resistant pipes with strong flow

Smooth composite pipes replace rusty metal lines inside your walls. The slick inner walls stop lime from building up over time. Showers and taps keep strong, steady water flow throughout the day.

Even tile surfaces with sanitary grout

Wall and floor tiles sit straight on solid cement screeds. Flexible grout stops mould from growing in damp coastal air. The shower floor slopes evenly so water runs down the drain without pooling.

Large porcelain slabs or standard ceramic tiles

Large-format porcelain slabs cover expansive shower walls with minimal seams. Fewer grout lines reduce the surface area where coastal limescale and mildew collect. However, handling oversized porcelain requires specialised cutting tools, two installers per sheet, and perfectly flat plastered substrates to prevent lippage.

Standard ceramic tiles offer straightforward alignment on existing masonry walls. They adapt easily around plumbing recesses, small window openings, and irregular room corners. While ceramic tiles involve more frequent grout cleaning, installation proceeds faster and requires standard adhesive beds.

Our recommendation is large porcelain slabs for spacious shower enclosures with straight walls, while standard ceramic tiles suit compact bathrooms with multiple plumbing boxed-in corners.

Concealed in-wall fittings or surface-mounted fittings

Concealed cisterns and hidden mixer valves place the pipework behind the wall tiles. This setup frees up floor area and makes cleaning around the toilet pan simple. It also leaves your bathroom looking tidy and open. Fitting them means cutting deep channels into brick walls or building a false wall into the room.

Fittings mounted on the wall fix straight onto the finished tiles using standard pipes. Fixing leaks or swapping a worn valve cartridge happens directly from the front. We do not have to break any tiles or brickwork for repairs. These exposed taps and outer toilet tanks take up more room, but demolition stays minimal. This keeps the early building work simpler and cheaper.

Your room size and wall build decide the right setup. We fit concealed units in narrow layouts where every centimetre of floor counts. Surface fittings work best on shared walls where building rules stop us from cutting channels into the brick.

Is this what you are looking at?

Dark crumbly grout between tiles

Persistent coastal dampness and aggressive cleaning chemicals break down cementitious joint fillers over time. Degraded joints can be cleaned out and resealed, unless water has already rotted the backing behind them.

Hollow sound under shower floor

Spot bonding creates empty air gaps that cause floor tiles to loosen under regular foot pressure. Loose tiles can be relaid flat, as long as the subfloor underneath is clean and sound.

Pipes choked with mineral scale

Hard mineral water deposits thick caliche crusts that restrict water pressure inside aging metal pipes. Clogged metal lines can be replaced with new pipework, unless the main building riser is also blocked.

Persistent drain smell near tray

Incorrect drain fall and unvented traps allow sewer gases to bypass the shower water seal. Bad drain lines can be realigned with proper slope, unless the floor depth prevents adequate fall.

Bubbling paint on bedroom wall

Water penetrates unsealed tile joints and saturates the brickwork separating the bathroom from adjoining rooms. Wet masonry walls can be dried out and protected, as long as a continuous membrane stops the leak.

Your questions, answered

How do you protect living spaces during a bathroom renovation? +

We lay durable dust sheets across all hallway floors and tape doorways to trap dust. Rubble goes straight into heavy bags. We sweep up shared building corridors at the end of every working day.

What written documentation follows a completed bathroom renovation? +

You get written sign-off for the flood test, maker manuals for your taps, and our written work promise. Keep these safe for future home sales or community files.

How do bathroom renovation works impact communal building areas? +

We lay down mats along shared hallways to protect the floors. We only run noisy breaking work during community-set hours. Water shutoffs are booked with your building manager beforehand.

Does a residential bathroom renovation require municipal or trade permits? +

Moving main building waste pipes needs local town hall approval. New wiring inside wet zones needs a signed work report from a licensed electrician.

Can you relocate the toilet during a bathroom renovation? +

Moving the toilet pan depends on the distance to the main soil stack. The waste pipe must keep a steady downward pitch across the floor. We check your floor depths before planning any layout changes.

What happens if you find a defect after the bathroom renovation? +

We provide a 5-year warranty on the workmanship. If an issue arises with seals, pipe fittings, or tile adhesion, we return promptly. We inspect the fault and fix it right away.
